The October Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday  Oct 25th at 7:30 PM. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:15. The role of the Club in the Council and its mission will be discussed. Read the question prompts and the article in Columbia magazine (see below). Refreshments and social will be held afterwards.

Fund Raising Activities


The Council sponsored a Blood Drive with the Red Cross on Tuesday October 17th.

The Council held its Annual Picnic on August 25th and distributed a number of awards. Shown here, Jack McGrail won the lifetime achievement award, Dave DeAntonio the Knight Volunteer of the year and GK Dennis Marince the Knight of the year.

The Council and the Red Cross held a blood drive on Tuesday August 15th. The drive collected 37 units of blood, enough to help 90 people that are in need. Thank you to the volunteers and the 40 people who came through the door. The next drive is October 17th from 1 to 6:30 PM.  Come give the gift of life.

The 2017 baby bottle campaign collected over $8000.00 from OLV parish and made its own donation to bring the total raised during to over 9,000.00. The proceeds will assist 18 mothers and their baby.

Father Ralph Mensah from St. Patricks in Ghana spoke at the June Meeting. Father Ralph is visited OLV this summer. The council has supported his school in the past and is planning a breakfast to be held Sept. 24th at the OLV activities center to benefit his school. Check the website and the OLV bulletin for details.

The council held a Fifth Sunday Rosary on Sunday July 30th after the 9:30 am Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church.  The Rosary was led by Council members after the Mass.  Thanks to Chairman Matt Hunt and the members and their families who participated.

Council 4678 received the church service award at the June meeting. We were recognized for our support of OLV school, St. Joe’s and support for vocations

Seminarian Peter Crowe received a Mass Kit from Faithful Navigator Dennis Marince as a gift from the Our Lady of Victory Fourth Degree Assembly #1945 at the May Council meeting. Father Crowe was ordained later that week in the Altoona-Johnstown diocese. The Council helped support Peter for years through the KofC RSVP program. Father Crowe is member of Fr. O'Hanlon Council and also the Fourth Degree Assembly.

Ruthie Dangelo received the Council $750 Scholarship and the State Council Scholarship Award in the amount of $3000. She will be attending Bloomsburg University in the fall majoring in nursing.  The presentation was made prior to the May Council meeting.

The Council and the Red Cross held a blood drive on June 13th. 45 people walked through the door and 39 units were collected. The next Drive will be August 1th 1-6:30PM.

Council 4678 volunteered at the aquatics events at the PA Special Olympics on June 2-4th. The events are held on the Penn State Campus.

Recent Activities

Council 4678 needs your help in its concession stands at PSU home football games. The first game is Saturday September 2nd.  The entire schedule and more information can be found here. Kickoff for the game is noon, gates open at 10:30 am.  This fundraising effort has enabled us to help the Church, Catholic Education, and the community.  We can’t do it without your help.  Several family teams have helped in the past and we hope to have more this year.  Workers must be 16 or older.  Community Service letters can be provided.  Contact either Doug Lang 574-6677 or doug.e.lang@gmail.com or Lionel T Bassett ltb10@comcast.net or 814 238-7003 if you can help or if you have questions.

Member Notice:

The KC Club Inc. is evaluating the facilities it owns and the role they play in the future of the Council.  The next discussion will be at the October General Council Meeting.  The topic will be the role of the Club in the Council and its mission. A list of questions can be downloaded here.  Please review them for the meeting.

We invite all council members to attend our council planning, club board, and council meetings on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Wednesday of each month, and become part of the conversation and provide solutions to the challenges we face. Please read the article Honoring Our Legacy, Serving Our Mission that appeared in the August 2017 issue of Columbia Magazine. Its content is relevant to our discussions. The Knights of Columbus held a breakfast at the OLV activities Center on September 24th to benefit Father Ralph Mensah’s mission school, St. Patrick’s in Ghana. Over 200 people were served and almost $3,000 raised. The council donated all of the supplies and labor. OLV provided kitchen facilities and the invaluable support from its pastor, Father Dadey. Thank you to GK Marince for organizing the event and the many volunteers who helped.


The Knights of Columbus will be awarding scholarships to High School Senior children of Knights of Columbus members.  The state program awards $3000 to a winner in the Diocese.  Our local council also offers a scholarship to a child or grandchild of a member of the local council. To receive an application, or if you have questions about the scholarship program, please contact Mark Thorwart at 238-0266 (email mthorwart@comcast.net).  Forms must be completed and returned to Mark by December 15th 2017.

Knight’s Mass. More than 24 Knights from our council served as ushers, readers, and Eucharistic Ministers at the 9:30 am Mass at OLV on Sunday, October 8th. Knights Deacon Dave Lipinski and Father Antony Sudherson celebrated the Mass. Thanks to Matt Hunt and Bob Hershey for coordinating the event.
